Metabolism refers to the intake of food versus the energy or work produced by that intake. As humans, it's our ability to utilize to the fullest the food we eat daily. Using exercise to build and tone muscle mass, we can reduce body fat and significantly raise metabolic rates for the long-term. The more muscle mass we have, the more calories required to maintain it, thus the more energy we burn—meaning we have a higher metabolic rate. Our nutritional habits also determine our metabolism and are key to guiding it towards the higher goal. Foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and essential nutrients make our bodies more efficient and, along with exercise, will lower our body fat and raise our metabolism. Paying attention to your body's needs and uniqueness will pay off in the long run, so find what's best for you and find wellness!
