Magnetic Therapy and Insomnia

By: Mercedes Aspland

I think everyone has suffered a sleepless night at some time or another. The aim of this article is to look at what insomnia is how it is caused and how magnetic therapy can be used to help relieve its symptoms.

What is Insomnia?

Put simply, insomnia is the inability to get a proper night’s sleep for no obvious reason, often leading to low energy levels and leaving people in a very bad mood. Probably about one in three people suffer from insomnia at some point in their lives.

There are several different ways in which this can affect you. People who have insomnia may find it very difficult to get to sleep, lying awake in bed for hours. Alternatively they may get to sleep but have difficulty staying asleep, waking up at regular intervals throughout the night.

Insomnia may be caused by no obvious reason this is often called primary insomnia. You may also find that people suffer from secondary insomnia which is caused by some other health problem, pain, medication or substance abuse. The length of time a period of insomnia can last for will vary from case to case.

Causes of Insomnia

There are a large number of things that can cause insomnia and below is a list of the top reasons:

1. Stress. This can be anything in your life that is causing you stress and keeps your mind active.
2. Anxiety. This can be minor or severe anxiety.
3. Depression. People who suffer from depression often find they wake up in the early hours of the morning and cannot get back to sleep.
4. Stimulants. Prescription drugs, cold and flu remedies, caffeine and nicotine can all prevent sleep.
5. Pain. If you are suffering from a painful condition it might prevent sleep.
6. Behavioural Insomnia. This is caused about worrying about a lack of sleep. Often the harder you try to get to sleep the harder it is to drop off.

Using Magnetic Therapy to Treat Insomnia

Although as discussed there are many causes of insomnia there is a common element. Basically your body clock is not working properly and so you do not know when to sleep and when to wake up. The body clock is very good at resetting itself as you may have noticed when you change time zones. Although you may get jetlag, this only lasts for a few days and then you are back to normal.

However, if you are suffering from long term insomnia that is caused by something like in the above list, your body clock may be so out of sync it does not know how to get back to normal, or even what normal is.

Your body clock is controlled by a hormone called melatonin which is secreted by the pineal gland. Usually when someone is suffering from insomnia the pineal gland has reduced its production of melatonin causing you to not be able to sleep properly. The best way to get a good night’s sleep is to stimulate the pineal gland to get it to increase its production of melatonin. There are various ways you can do this, including lifestyle changes. However these can take a long time to come into effect and so may lead to several more sleepless nights before the problem is solved.

However the pineal gland responds to electromagnetic fields so when a strong magnet is placed around the head, where the pineal gland is found this will stimulate the pineal gland in the desired way. After treatment it should only take a few days for your melatonin levels to come back to normal, enabling you to get a good night’s sleep.

The best way to apply this magnetic field is to place a magnetic pad inside your pillow and then it should be left there permanently to keep your body clock regulated.
